Filoro extra virgin olive oil is produced from the olive grove in the hills of Frigintini at about 400 meters above sea level. In this Modican oasis the traditional and unique varieties of olive trees are cultivated such as Moresca and Verdesa. The olives are harvested by hand picking, starting in early October and never beyond the end of the month.
The altitude of the olive grove, the early harvest and the same day pressing in a mill with continuous cycle cold extraction guarantee a quality product. After a short settling break, Filoro oil is ready to be tasted on the farm or shipped.
In 2006 the company participated in a regional “ecological network” call. This action had as its specific objective the support and development of rural areas, together with the enhancement of agricultural, forestry, environmental and historical-cultural resources.
The whole project has seen a series of interventions such as:
The protection and conservation of biodiversity, including through the construction of new plant species typical of the Mediterranean scrub;
The conservation and recovery of the agricultural landscape, with the creation of paths, a botanical garden, equipped areas including traditional artifacts for public use with the creation of a museum of peasant tradition.
Guests of the farmhouse, by going to the Filoro farm, have the opportunity to go hiking along the paths, visit the museum and have a tasting of typical products.
